File Karma
Computer Print 8 in. x 11.5 in. Based solely on a laptop's loading screen, the credit of my inspiration for this piece goes to pretty much what ever group of people made Microsoft laptops. If it were not for the frustratingly long loading screens I would not have even had this piece done. This is supposed to be something that might happen to you because karma thought it would be appropriate. This is a piece of paper that I had typed ink on. This is a loading screen that I made because of the irony I saw in a Windows loading screen, it say to "please wait". |
Artist Inspiration
My Artist inspiration is Bill Gates, because of him making Microsoft so that I could finish my project. The only difference between his loading screens and mine is so of my files are made up and fake like "Loaded:\windows\system32\Drivers\FileKarma.sys". So, I'm in art class rushing so frantically to get a laptop to try and find ideas on the internet. The first couple of laptops wouldn't even load to the login screen, but then I got a laptop that stop loading when it got to a screen similar to this. After a 10 minutes or so, I had just given up. Then I look at the "Please Wait...". I like the irony of the situation. I was in such a rush but the laptop was saying "Please Wait...". I decided to mix that and add in the " Loaded:\windows\system32\Drivers\FileKarma.sys" and the "STOP: c000021a (Fatal System Error) The initial session process terminated unexpectedly with status of 0x00000000 (0x00000001 0x0010037c). The system has ben shut down__". Also the word "procrastinate is in the piece set as a file. It kind of reminds me of a cause and effect relationship, also known as karma.

Process
This piece was created by using the Google Drawings application. First I was going to use a Google Docs because most of the piece involved typing, but I couldn't the entire document to turn horizontally. So I used Google Drawings to create it, mostly because I didn't have to turn it horizontally, it was already turnt. I set the page to the size, and turn the entire piece black with a background tool. I then looked up a couple more system file codes on google so that I could make it look like a real Windows System Files Loading Screen. Then I look up errors to fit the rest of the ironic piece. The 2nd to last file, file "prcstn8"(procrastinate) was more of a cause and effect message. First comes file "prcstn8", cause, then come file "Karma" to decide what will happen, then comes the effect of the cause, "STOP: c000021a {fatal system error} the initial session process terminated unexpectedly with status of 0x00000000 (0xc0000001 0x0010037c). the system has been shut down__" pretty much saying this is what you deserve for procrastinating to the last minute. After I had everything arranged on the drawing the way I wanted, I preview it on by pressing "print". It looked a bit weird because the size of the printed sheet didn't fit the size of the drawing, which squished everything together. So I streched the overall printing area and printed again, it turned out fine.
Reflection
For most of the time for this project, I have had nothing, not even and idea of what I wanted to do. The day before the due date when I was completely stuck with a dumb loading screen from an unbelievably slow laptop, I got an idea. To turn the most ironic thing that day, "Please Wait..."... into a piece of art. It was unbelievable how fast I was trying to get this done onece I acctually had an idea. My timing was completely horrible with this being the a huge project and all but, hey, I got it done. Next time I'll try to keep up with the project and not take so long on the brainstorming alone.
